The Internet Domain Name System (DNS) consists of a hierarchically organized directory of all domain names and the IP address of the corresponding computer. When you register a domain name, you can associate an IP address corresponding to a machine connected to the Internet (that of your host).
You can change host at any time without changing your domain name. Just point your domain name to the IP address of a machine of your new host (usually it is the latter that supports this operation).
